Police recover 2,500 kgs of explosives from Mizoram; Myanmarese national among three arrested

Acting on a tip-off security forces had launched a joint operation near Zawngling, a border village in South Mizoram, and recovered the explosives after intercepting a truck

AIZAWL:

The Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police in a joint operation on January 21 recovered 2,500 kilograms of explosives and 4,500 metres of detonator cord from near Zawngling, a border village in south Mizoram’s Siaha district, Mizoram.

Three persons including a Myanmarease national were arrested in the operation.

An officer of the Assam Rifles said, “We carried this operation based on intelligence inputs and recovered 2,500 kilograms of explosives and 4,500 metres of detonator cord. Of the three people, the foreigner is a member of the Myanmar-based Chin National Front (CNF).”

The CNF is a Chin nationalist political organisation fighting for a federal union, based on self-determination, ethnic equality and democracy in Myanmar, the Chin National Army (CNA) is its armed wing.

Following a military coup in Myanmar in February 2021, a large section of people from the Chin or Zo community have taken refuge in Mizoram, citing same ancestry and culture with the Mizos.
