SHILLONG:
State Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on September 1 said that policing in far flung areas was very difficult.
Rymbui was referring to the accident in an illegal coal mine in Shallang area in West Khasi Hills district.
The Home Minister said that such areas are far flung, and it would take at least five to seven hours to reach them.
He however appreciated the people for informing the authorities of the illegalities.
“If police are informed of any activities in those far-flung areas. The police try to reach there as early as possible to prevent illegal coal mining from being done in the area,” Rymbui said.
The Home Minister said that until and unless the police get information it is very difficult for them to know if there is something illegal happening.
He said that the road in the area where the latest incident took place is in a deplorable condition.
“Frankly policing the area of West Khasi Hills district and South West Khasi Hills bordering Garo Hills region is not easy,” the Home Minister said.
He however said that despite the constraints the police are trying to prevent such illegal activities as much as possible.
