Political parties’ urge PM Modi to visit violent-hit Manipur

Notably, the Congress and other opposition parties have been critical of the Centre and the Manipur government for failing to control the situation since the ethnic violence first erupted on May 3.

SHILLONG:

Amidst calls from different quarters over centre’s silence on Manipur, an all-party meeting to discuss the violent-hit Manipur situation on June 24 urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state.

The meeting which was chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, witnessed the participation of all parties, including the National People Party (NPP), led by its president Conrad K Sangma.

Briefing media persons, Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP National President, Sangma expressed his concerns regarding the prevailing situation in Manipur, and emphasised the need for immediate action by the Government of India.

Sangma emphasized that confidence-building measures are crucial for the people of Manipur. He proposed visits by the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and other political leaders to the state to demonstrate the government’s commitment to restoring peace and to seek the cooperation of the people in achieving this goal.
