AGARTALA:
TIPRA chairperson, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, on March 2, said that political violence is the culture of Tripura regardless of which political party is in power.
The royal scion, while asserting that violence is common in the state, claimed that political violence is a communist culture that has now been adopted by Trinamool Congress and BJP.
“This culture was not created in one day. The young generation should come forward to end this culture in the state. Such violence is just maligning the name of the state. It’s a shameful thing. It will take a long time to put an end to it,” he said, while adding that political parties may change but the culture of violence will remain.
The young leader further informed that TIPRA will hold a gathering on March 12 in Agartala demanding ‘Greater Tipraland’ before the union government.
The demand of ‘Greater Tipraland’ is not against anyone but for the benefit of the indigenous people of Tripura, he said.
“Earlier the government didn’t give permission to any regional political party to hold rallies or gatherings in Agartala. I hope the state government will allow our rally which will be held at Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala,” Pradyot said.
The rally will also raise the demand to hold the Village Council election which was supposed to be held last year.
“We are waiting for one more week to hear from the state government. If not, then all options are open including knocking at the door of the High Court,” he said.
