Power crisis in state: Employees’ union meets Mondal

Dkhar said that the union wanted to meet the Chairman-cum Managing Director (CMD) of MeECL, but it was unfortunate that they could not meet him.

SHILLONG:

The Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Employees Associations and Unions (CCORMAU), on June 14, met Power Minister AT Mondal, drawing his attention to the functioning of the utilities, the power scenario in the state, the high tariff rates, salaries of employees, and other issues crippling the power department.

Briefing media persons, CCORMAU vice president Arju Dkhar said, “We had a very open discussion because we want the power department to come out of the difficult situation and apprised the power minister on the most important matters. We do have our grievances, and we stand here to say that now also we have not received our salaries,” he said.

Dkhar said that the union wanted to meet the Chairman-cum Managing Director (CMD) of MeECL, but it was unfortunate that they could not meet him.

“To move forward, a utility company has to take all of its employees together. And therefore, this morning, we launched our protest before the power minister. Though we do see that there is no immediate relief, we see hope in the long run because there is a political will from our chief minister and power minister to improve the functioning of MeECL,” he said.

He further said that the union will extend its support to the power department if the ministry takes into confidence its employees.
