Pressure groups, civic bodies disrupt functioning of toll plaza at 20 Mile

NONGPOH:

Members of pressure groups and civic bodies of Ri Bhoi made a surprise visit to the toll plaza of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at Pahammaleiñ 20 Mile and disrupted it’s functioning creating chaos at the plaza, on August 4.

The group, including members of several organisations including United Hynñoewtrep Movement (UHM), Confederation of Ri Bhoi People (CORP) and Meghalaya People Social Organisation (MPSO), led by leaders Rainbow Tony Jyrwa, chairman of UHM, Markus Makri, secretary CORP, Meralna Ryndong of MPSO and many other leaders along with the village head of 20 Mile Phammawleiñ, stopped the collection of taxes from the plying vehicles demanding immediate termination of NHAI manager, Gagar Rahman.

Alleging miss use of power against Rahman, the leaders said that the manager has been suspending local workers of the plaza without any valid reason and has been disrespectful towards the dorbar shnong of Pahammaleiñ.

On receiving the information, Ri Bhoi police and the Magistrate reached the spot to appease both the parties and suggested negotiations between them.
