Probe report of Saubhagya scam awaited: Metbah

Charges of corruption need to be backed up by evidence.

United Democratic Party president Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday said report of the judicial inquiry on allegations of corruption in implementation of Saubhagya scheme is awaited.

Making the party’s stand on corruption clear, Lyngdoh said that the UDP will not sit idle when irregularities happen in the state.

Lyngdoh also said charges of corruption need to be backed up by evidence.

“Whoever comes up with allegations should back those with evidence, ” the UDP chief said.

Lyngdoh said that he personally does not come out with statements alleging or accusing anyone without any kind of evidence, adding that if one is alleging something against another, one cannot rely solely on what the other said.

More MLAs to join UDP.

Meanwhile, the UDP chief also said that four to five MLAs from other parties will be joining the party.

“Talks are going on and a few MLAs have already confirmed,” he said.

He also said that all UDP MLAs are intact and no one is contemplating leaving the party.

The UDP chief also said that the party will concentrate in every region where there is scope to perform well including the Garo Hills region.

Lyngdoh also said that he is confident that the party will do well in the 2023 Assembly election and the people are with the UDP.
