“Purno’s legacy and Agatha’s work raises Meghalaya’s position before eyes of PM”

Mendipathar, March 29: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that although a lot of effort and hard bargaining goes into dealing with the centre, given the jostling for space by big states that tend to push smaller ones aside, yet Meghalaya has been fortunate to escape that ordeal thanks to the lasting legacy of Late P A Sangma in Delhi and the hard work put in by Agatha K Sangma.

The NPP chief was in North Garo Hills on Thursday to drum up support for NPP candidate for 2-Tura Lok Sabha constituency Agatha K Sangma and addressed multiple campaign meetings in Mendipathar constituency including Chisimari and Keragalram.

“The role of an MP is very crucial because he or she has to engage with the central government to ensure developmental funds come to the state. Our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the central leadership in Delhi has immense respect for our father Late PA Sangma, and seeing the hard work put in by his daughter Agatha K Sangma, has always given due importance to concerns raised by our Tura MP,” said the Chief Minister.

He reminded all that the bonhomie shared between the NPP government in Meghalaya with the BJP led government in Delhi has helped the state to benefit immensely by way of large scale funding from the centre for various schemes and projects, including the expansion of road connectivity in the state through the PMGSY scheme.

“I hope the people of North Garo Hills will vote for NPP seeing the kind of development works initiated in the region, particularly towards road connectivity,” said Conrad Sangma.

“Earlier campaigns were cries for development, now it is appreciation for our work” Agatha

Addressing the crowds at Mendipather, Agatha said that there has been noticeable difference in the election campaigns from the past and the present.

“Previous campaigns, people raised concerns about poor road quality, lack of drinking water, poor infrastructure in schools and dismal healthcare services. But the kind of developmental works taken up by the NPP government in the last 6 years has changed peoples’ perception. Today, when we go to the campaign field, people come up to thank us for our work,” says Agatha Sangma as she urged the voters to continue supporting the NPP in this election as well so that the momentum of growth in the state is not lost.

“If we elect an MP from any other political party, it will be a great loss for Garo Hills. As the representative of our people from Tura Lok Sabha, I have been able to voice the concerns of my constituents in Delhi, and for the past six years of NPP Government in Meghalaya, I have been able to work with the State Government to push the agenda of development,” she said.

NPP leader and PHE Minister Marcuise Marak also told crowds that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has envisioned a mission for the State, to make Meghalaya a 10 billion US dollar economy.
