Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem of the National People’s Party (NPP) was elected as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on June 20.
The election for the CEM was held on Tuesday wherein the Chairman Lamphrang Blah declared Syiem as the CEM of the council as there were no other contenders for the post.
The newly elected CEM was felicitated by other MDCs.
It may be mentioned that United Democratic Leader (UDP) leader Titosstarwell Chyne lost the floor test on the first day of the Summer (Budget) session of the council on June 19 and his Executive Committee collapsed after losing the no-confidence motion moved by NPP MDC Bajop Pyngrope.

In his speech, the newly elected CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem urged the MDCs to keep the interest of the public and the Council as a priority.
He spoke about the protection and preservation the customary practices of the indigenous people.
He also expressed concern that many Bills are pending in the District Council Affairs (DCA), though the Bills are passed in the KHADC.
He assured the MDCs that the new Executive Committee will follow uup on the Bills passed by the Council, seriously.
Referring to the statement made by Chyne on not trusting anyone, Syiem told the new EC, “I trust you 101 per cent,” adding that he knows they will give their best.
In his speech on Tuesday, the UDP leader, Titosstartwell Chyne gave some words of advice to Syiem on politics in the District Council.
He said, “As a friend, I tell you – do not trust anyone, be vigilant, as the trend (to topple the Executive Committee) is still present.”
It was when he was ousted as the CEM on June 19 that Chyne had expressed anger, stating that he was back-stabbed by his friends.
He later said that the members will work together for the welfare of the Council.
