SHILLONG:

Member of United Democratic Party (UDP) Banalari Khongwar from Pynursla joined the National People’s Party (NPP) on February 2 along with her supporters in the presence of national vice-president Prestone Tynsong.

Speaking at a gathering at NPP office in Shillong, Tynsong expressed his gratitude to Khongwar for extending her support to him in the upcoming elections.

“We will work hard to secure the majority. We have noticed that the response from the public is favourable. We will not rest till we clinch a single majority and be able to lead the government and it will be much easier,” he said.

Meanwhile, Khongwar said that she is happy to be part of the NPP. She announced that she joined the UDP in 2008, and contested the 2008, 2013 Assembly elections against Tynsong.

She briefly recalled the time that there was a cordial loving relationship when UDP was led by late Donkupar Roy but things were different after the change in leadership.

“I left the party on personal grounds,” she said.
