SHILLONG:
One shop was gutted in a fire that broke out at Nongsangu village in Ri Bhoi district around 4 pm on April 15.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started after the owner of a teastall poured petrol on her stove instead of diesel, and set it on fire.
A customer who was having tea at the stall noticed smoke emanating from the other room and saw the fire; he ran out and called for help but before help could reach, a section of wooden shop was already up in flames.
On receiving the Information, The Meghalayan called up the Fire and Emergency Services, Nongpoh, who informed that they haven’t received any information about the incident until now.
Speaking to The Meghalayan, one of the customers said, “Hadn’t we noticed the fire and ran out inmediately, we could have also died but the fire was spreading so fast”.
No casualty was reported.
