Raid at coal trader’s office in Shallang

NONGSTOIN:

The Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs on Saturday conducted raids in the offices and manufacturing plants of illegal coal and met coke trader Dharmu Bansal and his son Sunil Bansal at Shallang in West Khasi Hills

The duo operates nine coke manufacturing plants, out of which only one has requisite legal documents.

As per sources, the mafia duo currently has more than 20,000 tonnes of illegally manufactured met coke in their possession with a market value in excess of Rs 60 crore.

Sources said DGGI also confiscated a large amount of cash from their offices.

Details are awaited.

Sources also informed that the house of the duo in Guwahati was also raided at the same time, in which documents, computers and cash were seized by DGGI.

Two of the employees were taken for questioning.
