‘Rapist’ nabbed from jungle hideout

The accused had been staying inside the Jadi Gindam forest for several days to escape the law after he was accused of repeatedly raping his neighbour’s daughter.

TURA:

A man who allegedly raped a physically challenged minor girl and went into hiding has been nabbed from his jungle hideout by police in South Garo Hills.

Police from Siju station in the district raided a makeshift camp of the accused rapist, identified as 43-year-old Polti N Marak, on Friday last and caught him as he tried to escape.

The accused had been staying inside the Jadi Gindam forest for several days to escape the law after he was accused of repeatedly raping his neighbour’s daughter.

He allegedly threatened the victim with physical harm if anyone found out and taking advantage of the minor’s silence, he repeatedly assaulted her. It was only after the victim was found pregnant that the story was revealed, by which time, the accused had fled from the scene.

He has since been arrested under the POCSO Act.
