RBDSA honours Lionel Rymmei for outstanding U-19 SAFF Cup performance

MD Syiem, the father of Lionel Daryl Rymmei, conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to Baichung Bhutia and RBDSA for acknowledging and celebrating his son's accomplishments. He also extended his warm congratulations to the India U-19 Team for their triumphant performance in the tournament.

The Ri Bhoi District Sports Association (RBDSA), on October 3, 2023, honoured Lionel Daryl Rymmei for his outstanding achievement as the Best Goalkeeper in the U-19 South Asian Football Federation Cup held in Nepal. Lionel Daryl Rymmei represented the Indian team in this prestigious tournament and is a dedicated student of the Baichung Bhutia Football School in Delhi.

During the felicitation ceremony, RB Shadap, the President of RBDSA, expressed his sentiments, saying, “It is indeed an honour for our district and state. Not only did the Indian team emerge victorious in the tournament, but our very own Ri Bhoi native, Lionel Daryl Rymmei, also received the coveted Best Goalkeeper Award. This is a moment of immense pride for all of us.”

Shadap also emphasised RBDSA’s commitment to nurturing talent not only in football but across various sports, with a goal to elevate the overall sporting standards within the district.

On another note, Bandari Ryntathiang, the President of the Confederation of Ri Bhoi People, and its members joined in the celebration to honour Lionel Daryl Rymmei. During the felicitation, Ryntathiang remarked, “Lionel Daryl Rymmei’s remarkable achievement serves as an inspiration not only for the people of our state but also for aspiring young players in our district.”

It is worth noting that Lionel Daryl Rymmei has been a part of the Indian Team since 2019, starting his journey in the U-15 category.
