TURA:
Days after inmates of the Tura Civil Hospital who were lodged in the new annex building were evacuated to the old building along with all major medical equipment in view of the threat of collapse due to a landslide that washed away the retaining wall and exposed its foundations, the District Disaster Management Authority has given a fresh alert asking all residents living in the vicinity of the weakened structure to move out.
A landslide had occurred a few weeks ago destroying a major part of the retaining wall that protected the back portion of the new building which over time further exposed the foundations threatening a possible collapse of the structure, prompting the evacuation of patients.
On Saturday, the Superintendent of Tura civil hospital Dr Inbert C Marak issued a notice asking all occupiers and households located near the landslide area to move out to a safer place as a precautionary measure since the threat of more erosion was possible if the rains came in.
He cited the report of the District Disaster Management Authority team that assessed the situation and advised the households in the surrounding area about the safety measures.
A cyclonic storm named Mocha that has developed in the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring a substantial amount of rain into the Garo Hills region.
