SHILLONG:
Residents of Hima Langrin, on July 5, served a weeks’ time to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to either remove the Management Board or the chieftain from the Hima, due to the latter’s decision to form a board to manage affairs of the Hima.
Representatives of the Hima announced this after meeting the Executive Member (EM) incharge of Elaka, PN Syiem to voice out their concerns following the creation of two governing bodies within the Hima – Syiem and the Management Board.
According to the president of the Seng Samla Hima Langrin, Pynshngain Lyngdoh, there is a need for the KHADC to intervene in this matter and to act against the Syiem of the Hima, Nangtei Sing Syiem for facilitating the creation of the Management Board.
He said that the residents of the Hima want the Syiem to immediately disband the Management Board and that he should govern the Hima as the Syiem and not as the Chairman of this committee.
The residents of the Hima have threatened to stage a sit-in demonstration in the premises of the KHADC if the council fails to take action.
