Retd deficit teachers demand monthly pension

SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Retired Deficit Teachers Association (MRDTA) on Saturday demanded the state government release their monthly pensions and enhance the death-cum-retirement gratuity (DCRG).

Addressing the media, MRDTA president ED Nongsiang said that the state government has decided to enhance the DCRG for deficit teachers, who have retired between January 1, 2017 and March 31, 2022.

Accordingly, the association had written to the state government through the education department to also consider for teachers, who retired before 2017 and after 2022.

Nongsiang said that despite several memorandums submitted to the state government, there has been no response in regard to the pension issue.

“There is a draft scheme of pension which is known as draft scheme for Meghalaya non-government deficit schools and teachers employees rule 2023 and this also has come out from the department but it is yet to be approved by the government,” he said.

Nongsiang informed that the association had met the chief minister and he had asked the association to meet the officials of the government on the matter. “He (CM) had assured that since the teachers are holding sanction posts in the deficit schools, they are eligible also for pension,” he said while urging the government to ensure teachers have a decent life even after retirement.
