United Democratic Party (UDP) president Jemino Mawtoh, on July 14, informed that the demand to review the Reservation Policy should not be just based on population, but on other parameters such as economic conditions, social backwardness or other things.
“Take the example of the OBCs reservation in the country which is 27 percent, however, they constitute 40 percent of the population. So, reservation cannot be raised just based on population,” he said.
He said Reservation is all about giving opportunities to certain groups of people to come up at a certain level.
Asked if it is too late to review the reservation policy, given that no community will like to give up on their quota, Mawtoh said that it is upto to the wisdom of the government and the expert committee to deliberate on the policy that will be acceptable to all.
