Ri Bhoi: 2 die on the spot after being electrocuted in Narang

The headman of the village said that this is the second time that the electric wire has fallen in front of the house, with the first time being last month.

RI BHOI:

In a sad incident that took place on October 9 at Narang, 20 Mile in Ri Bhoi district, two individuals lost their lives after touching a live electric wire that snapped and fell in front of their house.

The deceased have been identified as Lut Shadap (53) and her three-year-old grandchild Baiaishah Shadap.

As per a police report, the incident had taken place approximately around 12 pm when no one was around. Being a Sunday, most of the people were attending church service, and it was a boy from the village who discovered them and alerted the villagers.

Village headman Panjewell Khongmallai said, “Around 12 pm after being informed by villagers, I called the officers in-charge of the Byrnihat Police Out Post. A boy from the village cut off the electricity from the main transformer and the bodies were then carried inside the house after the family requested a post-mortem not be conducted.”

Khongmallai also said that this is the second time that the electric wire has fallen in front of the house, with the first time being last month. Villagers said the wire snapped due to the overhanging leaves of a coconut tree in front of the house.

More details are awaited from the office of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) and the police department.
