Ri Bhoi’s to send 16 weightlifters for 2022 Meghalaya Games

The athletes were among the winners of the Weightlifting Championship that concluded at Pahamsyiem Ground, on April 23.

Sixteen weightlifters from Ri Bhoi will represent the district in the upcoming Meghalaya Games 2022 slated to take place from May 2 to 6.

The athletes were among the winners of the Weightlifting Championship that concluded at Pahamsyiem Ground, Nongpoh, on April 23.

In the men’s 46-59 kg, Maximilius Ryndongsngi bagged the 1st place followed by Medonrynkat Shadap and Banteilang Marwei jointly clinching the second position. Wanbhabiang Thabah and Iaidkmenlang Kharkongor were adjudged joint winners of the third position.

In the women’s category, Ibanrihun Mating came out victorious, followed by Banity Lyngdoh in the second place and Ibalaiohkhamtilot Namsaw as winning the third position.

In the men’s 60-69 kg category, Anas Ryndongsngi secured the first place, followed by Biangbok Umbah in second and Sohryngkat Marboh and Bankerlang Marwein jointly taking home the third prize.

In the men’s 70-79 kg, Edelbert Ryndongsngi came was adjudged the winner followed by Antony Nongrum and Yonel as winners of the second and third position, respectively. Meanwhile, Donal Rymbai was the only participant in the heavyweight 110 kg category.

Organised by the Meghalaya Weightlifting Association (MWA) in collaboration with Ri Bhoi district Weightlifting Association (RBDWA), the event saw member of district council (MDC) of Umsning constituency, Macdalyne S Mawlong, president of MWA, Mawshan Singh Rai Hynniewta, president of RBDWA, Donald Rymbai and several other dignitaries in attendance.

Mawlong, while addressing the gathering, lauded the participants and said that weightlifting is not like any other sport, it requires a lot of courage. She further said that the sport will help in overall development of the youth. ‘’As leaders, it is up to us that we guide and support them so that they can fully enhance their capabilities,” she said.
