Rimpu Bagan case accused allege political conspiracy

Speaking to the media here on January 25, they claimed that police personnel, who had arrested them, told them that if they assured them that they would not vote for Bernard Marak they would be released immediately.

SHILLONG:

Some of those who were arrested from Rimpu Bagan in Tura on July 22 last year, have alleged that they were victims of political conspiracy.

Speaking to the media here on January 25, they claimed that police personnel, who had arrested them, told them that if they assured them that they would not vote for Bernard Marak they would be released immediately.

They have filed a complaint before the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC).

The petitioners lamented the delay in the hearing of their case filed in August-September last year and the first hearing in the case was supposed to be held on January 18, this year.

But on January 17 they were informed that the hearing in the case has been postponed to March, they said.

“Who will give us an assurance that we will not be harmed during this period,” one of them said.

They also said that even though they were not being threatened directly, they fear for their lives.

They also said that considering the political nature of the case, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police should have been transferred during the recent reshuffle ahead of the assembly polls.
