Ripun Bora appointed as Assam AITC chief

An official notification issued by AITC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee stated that Bora will take charge as the Assam's state party president with immediate effect

GUWAHATI:

West Bengal chief minister and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, on April 23, appointed Ripun Bora as the president of the Assam Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee.

An official notification issued by AITC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee stated that Bora will take charge as the Assam’s state party president with immediate effect.

Bora, the former president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), had quit Congress and joined AITC on April 17.

After joining AITC, Bora, a former minister and former Rajya Sabha member, had tweeted, “From today I have started my new political journey!”

In his resignation letter to Congress’ interim President Sonia Gandhi earlier, Bora had alleged that a section of Congress leaders in Assam have been in clandestine link with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Welcoming Bora to the party’s fold, Abhisekh later tweeted, “Extending a very warm welcome to Shri Ripun Bora, a stalwart and skilled politician, who joined the AITC family today. We are extremely pleased to have you on board and look forward to working together for the well-being of our people (sic)!”

A few days ago, Bora had also said that Mamata is the “most suitable” candidate from the opposition party for Prime Minister’s post in the 2024 Lok Sabha General election, as she has proven her mettle by taking on the BJP alone.

“I have full respect for all the opposition leaders but considering the ground reality, I consider Mamata Banerjee to be the only leader fighting aggressively against Modi,” Bora had said.
