Road maintenance efforts highlighted on Day 4 of Assembly session

Tynsong revealed significant maintenance and repair work carried out on state roads and major district roads across Meghalaya during this period.

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is in charge of Public Works (Roads), informed the state Assembly on September 21 that significant maintenance and repair work have been carried out on state and major district roads across Meghalaya during 2020-2023.

Replying to a question by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem regarding the state’s road infrastructure and maintenance, Tynsong also listed metalling and black-topping work done during this period.

According to Tynsong, the total length of roads maintained and repaired across all districts was 6117.208 kilometres while metalling and black-topping covered 2664.22 kilometres.

Maintenance/repairs: East Khasi Hills (1866.125 kilometres); West Khasi Hills (488.184 kilometres) in Eastern West Khasi Hills. (504.033 kilometres) ; Ri-Bhoi (666.419 kilometres); East Jaintia Hills (191.25 km), West Jaintia Hills (442.916 km), and West Garo Hills (834.776 km).

Metalling/black-topping: East Khasi Hills (444.969 kilometres), West Khasi Hills ( 143.907 kilometres), Eastern West Khasi Hills (136.616 kilometres); Ri-Bhoi (270.49 kilometres), West Jaintia Hills (370.783 kilometres); West Garo Hills (301.152 kilometres); South West Garo Hills (180.698 kilometres); South Garo Hills( 147.157 kilometres); North Garo Hills (197.406 kilometres) and East Garo Hills (197.4 kilometres).

These numbers reflect the substantial efforts made by the Department of Public Works (Roads) in maintaining and enhancing Meghalaya’s road infrastructure during the specified period, Tynsong said.
