The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district has granted permission to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Shillong for holding a road march on April 23 from 8:30 am to 11 am.
Sources in the RSS told The Meghalayan that RSS members from Khasi Hills and a few prominent RSS members from Jaintia Hills will be in attendance.
“A maximum of 500 of our members will be taking part in the road march which is a warm-up for the 2025 centenary celebration of the RSS. We decided to hold it on a Sunday as most of the government servants, teachers and other people are free, besides traffic flow is also less on a Sunday,” the source said.
It may be mentioned that the congregation of Swayamsevaks will be held at Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School ground, Garikhana, Shillong on Sunday.
The route for the road march will be from Hindi Balika School (opposite Goenka motors), Keating road via Police Bazaar point – Bijou cinema hall – Dreamland – Sani Mandir point and should proceed to Boucher road – Military hospital – Rilbong Point – Jhalupara Point – Lower Mawprem taxi stand – Upper Mawprem – Barapathar point – Luckier road – culminate at Cantonment ground, Garikhana.
The DC has instructed the organisers to complete the road march within the stipulated time.
The DC mentioned that the organisers should strictly ensure that there is no disruption to normal flow of vehicular traffic and pedestrians and the road march should be carried out only on one side of the road.
The DC also stated that the organisers should ensure that ‘no provocative slogans’ against any particular community, be shouted by participants in the road march which may lead to law and order and communal disharmony.
