Saleng files nomination to take on Agatha in Tura

Tura, March 26: Congress candidate and sitting Gambegre legislator Saleng A Sangma filed his nomination for Tura Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday, confident the odds are in his favour in the fight to wrest control of a seat that has been held by the family of P A Sangma for the last three decades.

Saleng Sangma was the first among the aspiring candidates to file his nomination papers before Returning Officer Jagdish Chelani.

Accompanied by Congress working president Deborah C Marak and a host of party leaders and workers, Saleng indicated that the battle for Tura would be between NPP’s Agatha K Sangma and himself.

“Congress is gaining strength with each passing day and the people are fed up of the BJP and its alliance partners. They are waiting for change to happen,” said the Congress candidate.

He was of the view that people of Garo Hills would rally behind the Congress to take on the BJP and the NPP and said the forced imposition of the Citizenship Amendment Bill/Act, atrocities on christian minorities and attempts to change the Constitution and make India a “Hindu Rasthra” have made the people of India, including Garo Hills, turn against them.
