Dharmen Gabil Momin of Sasatgre, West Garo Hills was awarded the Meghalaya Excellence Award on Environment Protection at the State Convention Center on June 6. The award which consisted of a citation, trophy, and a cash reward of 1 lakh was given during an elaborate gathering as part of the World Environment Day celebration in the capital.
Dharmen Gabil Momin is the proprietor of M/S Doˑpatchi Enterprise, a flourishing homestay at Sasatgre, on the fringes of the Nokrek Biosphere Reserve. He is an avid conservationist and promoter of eco-tourism. He has single-handedly worked tirelessly for the conservation of the house swift, a bird predominant in the Garo Hills region. Doˑpatchi Home stay catering to both domestic and foreign tourists is part of Momin’s project to protect indigenous flora and fauna while at the same time promoting eco-tourism.
