Sawkmie accepts UDP’s decision on Shillong MP candidacy, eyes MDC election

In the wake of the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) official declaration of Robert June Kharjarin as its candidate for the upcoming MP Election from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency, former MLA of Mawlai Constituency, Process T Sawkmie, on December 27 expressed his acceptance of the party’s decision, and conveyed his preparedness to participate in the MDC Election 2024. Having previously served as an MLA for three terms in the Mawlai Constituency, Sawkmie, who had expressed interest in contesting the MP Election with a UDP ticket, provided insights into his perspective.

“I have held ministerial positions and accumulated 30-35 years of political experience, making me capable of contesting any election. However, given the party’s choice of Robert June Kharjarin as the candidate, I wholeheartedly accept the decision and will dedicate myself to supporting the party,” stated Sawkmie.

While Sawkmie is yet to finalise his decision regarding participation in the MDC Election, he underscored the paramount importance of public service, emphasising that, whether as an MLA or MDC, no role is insignificant when it comes to serving the people.

“When the people place their trust in me, I will wholeheartedly serve them,” said Sawkmie, reinforcing his commitment to public service. Notably, the former MLA has officially communicated his intention to contest the MP Election from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency under the UDP banner.
