Seng Samla Lum Marboh organises awareness-cum-health camp

Speaking on the occasion, headman of Nongrah, Ban Pyngrope, expressed deep concern over the drug menace in Meghalaya and in the entire North East Region.

SHILLONG:

The Seng Samla of Lum Marboh in collaboration with Rynjah State Health Dispensary conducted an awareness-cum-health camp in Nongrah on December 3.

Speaking on the occasion, headman of Nongrah, Ban Pyngrope, expressed deep concern over the drug menace in Meghalaya and in the entire North East Region.

“It was pathetic to see in those days how Mizoram was badly affected by drugs, and now Meghalaya is gradually inching to that situation,” he said.

However, he was optimistic that social evils can be eradicated from Nongrah with the active involvement of young people from the locality of Lum Marboh. He also urged the youth to be more alert when it comes to anti-social elements, as the locality is the gateway to Nongrah.

Pyngrope also spoke on health, saying that it is important because it is required for physical work and intellectual activities.

Senior District and Health Medical Officer, Dr. H Synmon of Rynjah State Health Dispensary, East Khasi Hills, also expressed concern over the prevalence of drugs in Meghalaya.

Martina Pyngrope, a mother and resident of Lum Marboh, said it is very difficult to root out social evils without the cooperation of everyone. However, she was optimistic that the good youths of the locality would be able to convince their friends not to fall into bad habits that are detrimental to their lives.

The adviser of Seng Samla Lum Marboh, S Jungai lauded the locality youth organization for shouldering the responsibility to look after the welfare of the locality. He said the awareness-cum-medical camp was a humble beginning and hoped that other useful activities would be taken up by this organization in the near future.

The programme, which was presided over by Felix Kharshiing, was marked with enthusiastic participation of youths, ASHA workers, women and elderly persons of the locality, in which, a sizeable number of people availed the medical check up and medicines.
