Shad Suk Mynsiem begins with traditional zeal and fervour

The proceedings began with a prayer in the Niam Khasi (Khasi indigenous faith) by Hainness Marbaniang, general secretary of Seng Khasi Kmie, after which the dancers moved to Weiking ground.

SHILLONG:

Hundreds of Seng Khasi followers, both young and old, dressed in their best cultural attire, gathered at Seng Khasi Hall in Mawkhar on April 8 to partake in the 3-day Shad Suk Mynsiem festival, also known as “the dance of peaceful hearts,” which kicked started today and will conclude on April 10.

The proceedings began with a prayer in the Niam Khasi (Khasi indigenous faith) by Hainness Marbaniang, general secretary of Seng Khasi Kmie, after which the dancers moved to Weiking ground.

Participants paid warm tributes to their ancestors and the creator whilst the venue resounded with the rhythmic beats of the traditional drums, as they thank the Almighty for a bountiful harvest.

Later, the vice president of Seng Khasi Kmie, O Pyngrope, unfurled the Seng Khasi flag in the presence of the followers of the organisation.

Shortly after, dancers, of various ages, gathered to perform the Shad Nohkjat.
