SHILLONG:
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the search and select committee is expected to submit the names shortlisted for appointment of the new chairperson and members of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) within the next two weeks.
“The search committee is yet to report back to me but I expect in the next two weeks or so they should be able to come up with the final report,” Lyngdoh said.
He said, “The shortlist will come for may consideration and on the advice of the chief minister we will take a final call on the matter.”
In his recent statements, the minister had also assured not to allow politicisation of the selection process for appointment of the chairperson and members of the MSCW.
The search and select committee was notified on July 24.
The panel is headed by the commissioner and secretary in-charge social welfare as chairperson. Secretary in-charge personnel and AR department, director of social welfare, deputy inspector general of police (DIG CID), director of health services are official members and principal of Lady Keane College, Shillong, principal of Women’s College Shillong and head of the department of social work, MLCU are the non-official members of the committee.
The committee has been asked to identify and recommend names of eminent women, who have rendered their services for the cause of women, who have sufficient knowledge and experience in dealing with women’s issues and problems, as chairperson, vice-chairperson and members of the MSCW as and when vacancies are notified.
The term of the search and select committee will be for a period of three years from the date of notification.
