Simsang Festival comes to an end

Cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak, graced the grand finale of the two-day Simsang Festival as the chief guest at Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School playground.

A food fest accompanied by a musical and fashion show and showcasing of unique traditional products created by local artisans from Garo Hills stole the show during the grand finale of the Simsang Festival at Williamnagar in East Garo Hills, on Saturday.

Cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak, graced the grand finale of the two-day Simsang Festival as the chief guest at Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School playground.

Speaking on the occasion, Marak informed the gathering that the aim of organising festival is to showcase the talent and skills of the local people and artisans in various fields such as sports, handicrafts, singing, among others. The festival also aims to encourage youngsters to grab opportunities being provided by such kind of festivals.

Marak also informed that the state is trying to bring more opportunities and platforms where talented youth will be able to showcase their skills.

East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Vibhor Aggarwal, while delivering the welcome address informed that the popularity of the festival and the number of participants is on the rise every year.

On the occasion, the chief guest also distributed cheque to the NRLMs and Self Help Groups under the Lakhpati Didi scheme.

The highlights of the festival included competition in games and sports, singing, dancing, cooking and performances by various music bands like Riprap, Nokpante and Do.pos.

ADC and Rongjeng SDO Civil, Reuben Ch Momin, proposed the vote of thanks on the grand finale of the festival.
