The Meghalaya Games have wrapped up, but certain stories linger, and Ringchi K Sangma’s tale is one of them. From the small town of Upper Wadanang in West Garo Hills, Ringchi, a wrestling prodigy, made a lasting impact. Remarkably, with just six days of basic training after joining the Wrestling Association of WGH district a month ago, the 19-year-old athlete achieved a commendable feat, securing a silver medal in Freestyle Wrestling at the 5th Meghalaya Games.

This accomplishment is noteworthy, marking Ringchi as one of the first wrestling athletes from Garo Hills to excel in this newly included discipline. During an interview at the event, Ringchi expressed her joy, saying, “I joined Meghalaya Wrestling Association and trained for 6 days under my coach. I am really happy today as I am the first woman wrestler from Tura who won a silver medal. I would like to thank the Government of Meghalaya for organising the Meghalaya Games here, as I am able to show my talent to everyone.”
