South Shillong to get additional water supply: Shullai

Shullai informed that an amount of Rs 34 crore has already been sanctioned for projects which are under the PWD department.

SHILLONG:

BJP legislator from South Shillong constituency and chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) Sanbor Shullai on December 1 reviewed the implementation of various schemes in the constituency.

Addressing media persons, Shullai informed that through the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme the people of South Shillong will get additional water supply through the PHE and Shillong Municipal Board.

“Under the AMRUT scheme we have received Rs 7.74 crore which will be utilised in constructing storage reservoir tanks to store water from sources like Wah Jalanod Lawsohtun and Umsohphenam which will in turn supply the water to the people of the constituency,” Shullai said.

Shullai attributed the delay in implementing the AMRUT scheme to difficulty in getting no objection certificate (NOC) from the Forest department especially when it comes to constructing reservoir tanks in the middle of the forest where there are water sources.

He added that last month the approval was received and Rs 3 lakh has been paid to the Forest department.

Further, Shullai informed that an amount of Rs 34 crore has already been sanctioned for projects which are under the PWD department especially when it comes to constructing new roads or repairing of old roads in Lumparing, Kenches Trace and Rilbong.

“I want to thank the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong for support in the form of sanctioning funds for implementation of various schemes and projects for the people of my constituency,” he added.
