SSA teachers meet with Tynsong to discuss pending issues

On the enhancement of salary of SSA teachers, Tynsong reiterated that it shall be addressed by the "State Education Commission" which will be constituted by state government very soon.

A delegation of the Meghalaya Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) School Teachers Association met with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on August 31 to discuss several issues pertaining to the welfare of the SSA teachers in the state. The talks included clearing of all pending salaries, implementation of quarterly system for payment of salary of SSA teachers, as well as enhancement of their salary.

Tynsong informed the delegation that the state government has received the sanction order for release of ad-hoc installment and first installment of the Center’s share amounting to Rs 272 crores (approx).

In a statement issued, president of the association Aristotle Rymbai said that the state is working out to release the state share amounting Rs 30.26 crores (approx) and also the additional funds against capping norms of salary.

As for the implementation of quarterly system for payment of salary of SSA teachers, Tynsong informed the delegation that the departments concerned (Education, Planning & Finance department) are working to put a system in place.

“He also informed us that for the smooth implementation of the ‘Quarterly System’ the state government also has to increase its corpus funds in order to be able to cater to the payment of salary to SSA teachers in the state,” Rymbai stated.

Turning to the enhancement of SSA teachers’ salary, Tynsong reiterated that it shall be addressed by the “State Education Commission” which will be constituted by state government very soon.
