State cannot have multiple capitals: Ampareen on Winter Capital Demand

Questioned that the ongoing winter capital demand was a commitment of statehood movement leaders, and that the ANVC agreement also had asked for a winter capital, Lyngdoh replied that she is yet to know about all those demands linked to statehood or any other matter.

SHILLONG:

Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has said the state cannot have multiple capitals, maintaining that the demand will lead to different districts demanding for some or the other thing.

“These demands should not be entertained, that is my personal view, because we will be in trouble if every district comes up with new demands. It will be difficult for us to administrate,” Lyngdoh told media persons on July 18.

Questioned that the ongoing winter capital demand was a commitment of statehood movement leaders, and that the ANVC agreement also had asked for a winter capital, Lyngdoh replied that she is yet to know about all those demands linked to statehood or any other matter.

“I am just looking at it practically, if you are going to have Spring, Autumn, Winter, Monsoon capitals and sessions everywhere, administration will miss the point. The chief minister will meet the ACHIK protestors soon, and I hope some sense will prevail,” she said.

She also said that the government is trying its best to take blocks to the people—which means it will ensure the presence of administration in every district.
