State govt maintaining ‘status quo’ on reservation policy: CM

He was reacting to a recent demand by pressure groups for immediate reviewing and revamping of the state reservation policy alleging that it is giving undue favor to a particular tribe in the state.

SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, on November 9, said the state government is maintaining the ‘status quo’ as far as the job reservation policy is concerned.

“But from a clear point of view we have maintained the status quo when it comes to the reservation policy,” Sangma told reporters.

He was reacting to a recent demand by pressure groups for immediate reviewing and revamping of the state reservation policy alleging that it is giving undue favor to a particular tribe in the state.

On the recent order by the Supreme Court that the reservation policy cannot stay for indefinite period, the chief minister said there is no question of us touching the reservation policy.

“We have been very clear that we are maintaining the status quo. I think the Supreme Court has made that observation as a general observation saying that in the long run obviously one has to move forward so that’s a general statement that is an observation made by the Supreme Court I don’t want to make any specific comment about that,” he said.
