State Human Rights Commission urges report on alleged police assault on HYC members in Pynursla

Shillong, February 29: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has formally requested the Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Khasi Hills to furnish a comprehensive report concerning the purported assault incident involving the 2nd OC at Pynursla Police Station and the President of the Riwar Mihngi Circle on February 24.

The Secretary of MHRC informed that the Commission has given the East Khasi Hills SP 15 days to submit the detailed report.

The MHRC Secretary in a statement stated, “The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC), Shillong, has taken cognizance on the complaint filed by the Central Body of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) signed by the President and the Secretary against the alleged assault by the 2nd OC incharge of Pynursla Police Station against the President of the Riwar Mihngi Circle at Pynursla Police Station. Notice has been issued to the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, to submit a detailed report to the Commission within 15 days”.

It maybe noted, the HYC on Monday demanded an inquiry into the alleged assault by a police officer, for assaulting two of its member at Pynursla Police Station.

HYC President Roy Kupar Synrem met Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills Rituraj Ravi and demanded immediate investigation into the incident.

Terming it as an abuse of power and highhandedness by police, Synrem stated that the council has demanded suspension of the second OC of Pynursla PS during the course of the inquiry.
