SHILLONG:
The Meghalaya government is not going to produce any more witnesses in the Mukroh firing incident while the Assam Director General of Police (DGP) is expected to produce his witnesses on May 5 and 6.
This was informed by Justice T Vaiphei who has been tasked to inquire into the Mukroh firing that led to the death of five people from Meghalaya and a forest guard from Assam on November 22, 2022.
Vaiphei said that Meghalaya DGP on Saturday produced a witness who is the current havildar of Dawki Police Station and who had earlier served in the police outpost near Mukroh.
In his order on the same day of the hearing, Vaiphei said that the deposition of Swarian Pahsyntiew was recorded and discharged with no other witness being produced by the government of Meghalaya.
“Meghalaya government is not going to produce any more witnesses, so the evidence of Meghalaya police is closed. The next hearing will be on May 5 and 6. The DGP Assam is expected to produce his witnesses on those two days,” he said.
Asked as to why Meghalaya is not producing more witnesses, he replied that it is up to the state to produce more witnesses if required.
