State reports 102 fresh Covid cases; dept swings into action

Cabinet minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the department is keeping a close watch on the sudden spike.

SHILLONG:

Just when we thought Covid-19 is slowly subsiding, it has once again raised its ugly head in Meghalaya. The state, on Wednesday, reported 102 fresh Covid cases taking the total active cases to 358 and cabinet minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the department is keeping a close watch on the sudden spike.

“We are keeping a close watch on the situation,” said Rymbui. The Education minister, however, ruled out the possibility of the government issuing a blanket order for closure of schools in the state.

“The government had already issued a notification directing the deputy commissioners to take decisions within their respective jurisdiction as and when the need arises,” he further added.

Earlier in the day, seeing the sudden surge of fresh cases in the state, the East Khasi Hills district administration asked the citizens of the district to strictly adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour and use masks at all times.

A notification issued by the administration, on July 20, read, “All eligible citizens are to avail the free precautionary dose whereby such special vaccination camps will be carried out as part of the Covid Vaccination Amrit Mahotsav w.e.f. July 15 to September 30, 2022 which will be operationalised at big office complexes (public and private), industrial establishments, inter-state bus terminus, schools and colleges. In such special vaccination camps, vaccination shall be done and a Vaccination Certificate too will be provided.”
