Students should be transferred to the schools where enrolment is better: NPYF prez

The person, identified as Andrew Umsong (32), also an acquaintance of the deceased, Snor Kharkongor, was hiding in Nongwar when he was arrested and the deceased’s cellphone was also seized from his possession, the police said.

SHILLONG:

The state president of the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Kitborlang Nongrem has suggested that the government should streamline schools with less enrolment of students vis-à-vis those that have a large number of children.

He said that now the teachers are being paid salaries of Rs 18000 and Rs 24000 respectively irrespective of the work they are doing.

“Without disturbing the career of the teachers who are teaching in schools with lesser enrolment but with many teachers, the students should be transferred to the schools where enrolment is better,” Nongrem said.

The NPYF president said that on this basis, service to the students will be better.

He also thanked the state government for enhancing the salaries of the Ad-hoc teachers.

According to Nongrem, he hoped that the teachers even though they may not be fully satisfied, the NPYF will accept the decision of the government.

He also said that the NPYF will take the issue of a 5 per cent increment annually of the Ad-hoc teachers’ salary with the state government.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the National People’s Party (NPP) Bajop Pyngrope commented on the suggestion of the Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FAST) mentioning that only three categories of teachers should be there – government, government-aided and private, said that all stakeholders should be taken into confidence before making any decision.

“We will request the Education department to invite all the stakeholders for discussion before taking any decision so that everybody is satisfied,” Pyngrope said.

He also said that the enhancement of the Ad-hoc teachers’ salaries was not easy since it was never there in the budget allocation.

“The Rs 100 crores had to be sacrificed from other departments. We also know that the Education sector is very important,” the Rambrai-Jyrngam MDC added.
