Syad Lyngdoh Govt School in Ri Bhoi gets a facelift

All this was possible due to the joint contribution of the Khasi Students Union Syad Unit, the Dorbar Shnong of Syad Heh and Syad Rit, and an anonymous contributor.

NONGPOH:

Syad Lyngdoh Government Lower Primary School in Ri Bhoi district, on February 22, got a facelift with a renovated building and other necessary infrastructure, including a new kitchen and toilets.

All this was possible due to the joint contribution of the Khasi Students Union Syad Unit, the Dorbar Shnong of Syad Heh and Syad Rit, and an anonymous contributor.

The renovated school building was inaugurated on February 22, marking a significant milestone in the school’s history.

During the inauguration ceremony, donors were also felicitated by the school authorities as a mark of gratitude for their contribution towards the betterment of the school.

In an interview with The Meghalayan, the school’s headmistress, Shimtidahun Kharpuri, said that the school building has not undergone any repairs since its establishment in 1956.

Although the school is fully government-funded, the grants received were not enough to maintain the school building and other infrastructure, Kharpuri said.

She said they had reached out to government offices for support, but to no avail.

“In response to the lack of government support, the Executive Committees of the two Dorbar Shnongs — Syad Heh and Syad Rit, organised a mini fete to raise funds for the renovation of the school building. The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) also helped with the renovation, along with anonymous donors,” she said.

Syad Lyngdoh Government Lower Primary School currently enrols more than 150 students from Nursery to Class V. Despite the lack of government support, this school remains dedicated to providing education for its students.

Donbor Marbaniang, President of the School’s Managing Committee, also expressed his appreciation for the donors.

“The school is a place where we can shape a child’s future. The infrastructure of the 67-year-old Syad Lyngdoh Government Lower Primary School was in shambles. Thanks to the donors, we have been able to give this school a facelift,” he said.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Executive Members of the Dorbar Shnong Syad, General Secretary of the KSU North Khasi Hills District, James Hitler Mawphniang, the donors, students, parents, and the members of the Managing Committee of the School.
