SHILLONG:

The working president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), PN
Syiem on Sunday said that he accepts Vincent H Pala as the state president of the party.

“I accept anyone appointed by the AICC and in this case Pala is my president,” Syiem said.
When asked to comment on the statement of Rambrai–Jyrngam MDC, Bajop Pyngrope, that the appointment of Pala as MPCC chief was done through the back door, Syiem refused to comment saying that it was made by an individual.

“In a school we have to respect the headmaster and in a village we value the Rangbah Shnong,” Syiem added.

It may be mentioned that on Saturday, Pyngrope was reported to have said that the MPCC chief was appointed through the backdoor and there was no election to the post in contravention to the constitution of the party.

The MDC also said that even after the split in the party when 12 MLAs left to join the TMC, the AICC could not do anything and later even in the GHADC when 11 MDCs left to join the TMC nothing was done by the party.

The MDC also said that the supporters of Rambrai-Jyrngam are waiting for the decision of the AICC on the five legislators.

“If this time they make a mistake by suspending our MLA (Kimfa Marbaniang) then the Congress in the state has to shut shop,” Pyngrope added.

He added that the Congress members of Rambrai-Jyrngam support the decision to support the NPP-led MDA alliance. It is more important to get development in the constituency.
