Synjuk delegation meets WKH DC to address Langpih boundary dispute

The Deputy Commissioner reassured the Synjuk delegation that the government is taking the matter seriously.

Nongstoiñ:

A delegation representing the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong, Nongmynsaw Syiemship, held a crucial meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills(WKH) on January 10, addressing the prolonged boundary dispute with Assam in the Langpih sector.

Led by Secretary Serbilin Lyngdoh, the delegation submitted a memorandum to Regional Committee Chairman Paul Lyngdoh through the Deputy Commissioner of WKHD. The memorandum expressed discontent with the lack of progress on the issue since the last meeting held at the DC office in 2023.

Secretary Lyngdoh expressed frustration, stating, “We haven’t seen any significant progress towards a boundary settlement despite our previous discussions. Both the Synjuk and the people of Langpih Sector are eager to see this matter resolved once and for all.”

The memorandum underscored the strong desire of villagers, primarily from Khasi and Garo communities, to remain within Meghalaya. Lyngdoh asserted, “Our land belongs here. The people do not want it to fall under Assam’s jurisdiction.”

The Deputy Commissioner reassured the Synjuk delegation that the government is taking the matter seriously. He stated that the regional committee would resume its efforts to resolve the Langpih Sector boundary dispute.
