Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong of Block-2 disagree on location of BOPs

President of the Synjuk, while expressing disappointment, said the Synjuk is strongly against the decision of the state government to set up the BOPs at Tyrso and Thadrang.

NONGPOH:

The Regional Committee of Ri Bhoi district held a meeting on November 30 at the conferences hall of the Deputy Commissioner.

The meeting was presided over by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and it was attended by the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong, Block II.

Speaking to The Meghalayan after the meeting, the president of the Synjuk, Blik Sohtun, said that they are in agreement with the state government and its procedure to solve the border dispute that is happening between Meghalaya and Assam in the second phase.

On being asked for their opinion on the border outposts (BOPs) being set up for the security and protection of the people living in the border areas, the Synjuk said it has urged Tynsong to speed up the process. They, however, said their request for some of the BOPs to be set up at specific areas was not agreed upon.

“We have requested the Dy CM, who is also the chairman of the Regional Committee, Ri Bhoi district, to set up the BOP at Ummat and Umthlih, but he rejected our request saying the outpost cannot be set up in the disputed areas. The government has instead decided to set up the BOPs at Tyrso and Thadrang which is purely in Meghalaya,” Sohtun said.

Sohtun, while expressing disappointment, said the Synjuk is strongly against the decision of the state government to set up the BOPs at Tyrso and Thadrang.

“If the government is scared to set up the BOP at Ummat and Umthlih or Madan Umwang, we will set up our own outpost for our own safety and security, we have our youth to help us to install this outpost,” Sohtun added.
