Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong opposes gambling project

NONGPOH:

The Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Ri Bhoi district expressed their unwillingness to accept the gambling project in the district.

B B Makdoh, the president of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong, claimed that the Synjuk always works for the district’s growth and that permitting gambling will damage the district’s reputation.

He added that instead of bringing casinos the government should build more government colleges or a university that will benefit the students and youths of Ri Bhoi.

Makdoh further stated that the government should listen to the demands of the public to stop the project. He added that the Synjuk will take another step to stand against the casino project in the district if the government does not pay heed.

It may be mentioned that on April 27, chief minister Conrad Sangma said that while the government is trying to raise revenue by bring in casinos and online gambling and gaming for tourists, it also wants to ensure that citizens of the state are safeguarded from such activities and that such activities won’t affect the city as such.

“Even if we go ahead with legalising these activities in the state, they will be taking place far from the city. These activities will take place in areas starting from Byrnihat Bridge towards Jorabat and Khanapara,” said Sangma, reiterating that locals will not be allowed to take part in gambling activities.
