Teachers’ demand re-instatement of jobs

SHILLONG:

Teachers under the Meghalaya Government Lower Primary Contractual Teachers’ Association protested at the busy Civil Hospital Point junction where they stayed overnight starting from Tuesday.

The teachers have been demanding the re-instatement of their jobs.

President of the association, Birbor Riangtem said, “There will be misinterpretation of laws if there is no education. There may be a law and order issue if education takes a backseat.”

He added that there will be other teachers who will be joining the agitation to strengthen their demand.

He also criticised the state government for wasting public money by holding festivals instead of spending funds on education.

Taking a cue from Riangtem, the other teachers will surrender their documents to the government.
