Teachers’ Recruitment

By The Editor

Teaching is not only a great profession but more importantly it is considered to be a noble one. Good teachers need not only to love and cherish students but also love teaching so that in the end they will feel greatly rewarding for their efforts. Their enthusiasm for learning and imparting it to students takes much of their time. Nevertheless they are to be highly appreciated because they are well- organised people too who spend their time in planned manner by attending to class preparation, correcting papers and also manage clerical work as part of the job. Above all, they know how to get along with others including their colleagues and supervisors. John Garret said: “The job of a teacher is to excite in the young a boundless sense of curiosity about life so that the growing child shall come to apprehend it with an excitement tempered by awe and wonder”. Teachers must have energy and stamina and hence should pay great attention to mental and physical health. Teaching is a special calling and therefore no mechanical devices can replace teachers however advanced they may be.

Progress and development of countries, states and societies depend mostly on quality education and it is therefore highly essential for government authorities to pay more attention in this sector by recruiting good, qualified and dedicated teachers and at the same time provide handsome salaries to them. Happy and contented teachers can render better services to children and young kids who will one day emerge as responsible citizens and build strong nations. Teachers have their own families to take care and they are also to be respected and applauded for their sacrifices. If any complaints or misunderstanding arise authorities need not delay but prompt attention and care are to be taken. It is really a shame if teachers are neglected and abandoned who out of frustration and anger at being badly treated and humiliated will go to the streets for seeking justice. Sad experience of last year will surely be an eye-opener and a lesson so that it will not again be allowed to repeat in future by redressing grievances at appropriate time.

New MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) 2.0 government after assuming power immediately within few days has announced forming Education Commission for revamping, rejuvenating and revitalising education in the state. Recently Assam government stated that it is planning to set up State College Services Recruitment Board to centralise selection process of principals, and assistant professors in provincialised and government colleges across the state. The state has total of 8,590 teachers and 3,500 non-teaching employees in different colleges and total number of students is 4,44,630. In similar manner Meghalaya can adopt at school level first for streamlining of teachers and institution heads. Prior to this the government has a Himalayan task to perform with regard to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) schools so that disparities can be rectified.
