According to the police, the 19-year-old girl, Neha G Momin, was reported missing from Tura since April 20 by her family.

TURA:

West Garo Hills police have cracked a two-month-old case of murder of a teenage girl allegedly by her jealous lover with the help of an underage accomplice. The body of the missing girl was exhumed from a shallow grave in North Garo Hills on June 25.

According to the police, the 19-year-old girl, Neha G Momin, was reported missing from Tura since April 20 by her family.

Following the missing report, a case was registered at Tura women police station and the investigation started.

It was on June 22 that police identified a suspect and arrested him from Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills. This was followed by the apprehension of another suspect who later turned out to be a child in conflict with law (CICL).

During interrogation, the arrested youth identified as Solesh R Marak revealed that he had been in a relationship with the girl for 2-3 years. He had a suspicion that she was having an affair with another boy and out of jealousy he conspired with the juvenile to lure the girl and murder her.

“The accused boyfriend along with the juvenile was snooping on her for quite some time. On April 20, they called the girl to Bajengdoba on the pretext of sorting out their differences and murdered her on the same night,” said West Garo Hills SP VS Rathore, who had earlier formed a team to crack the case.

Based on the admission by the accused boyfriend, a massive search operation was launched on Friday, and on being led by the arrested person and the juvenile they swooped down on a jungle area in North Garo Hills.

After a massive manhunt lasting over 24 hours, police identified the spot where the victim was buried.

The body of the young girl was recovered on Saturday afternoon from a place located approximately a kilometre from the house of the arrested boyfriend near Sona Chiring, next to Didram river. The mobile phone of the deceased, which was buried near an electric pole located approximately 100 metres from the house, was also recovered. The body has been brought to Tura for post mortem examination.

West Garo Hills police chief Rathore said that investigation is continuing and a charge sheet would soon be filed.
