GUWAHATI:
Renowned social worker and former chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Padma Shri Theilin Phanbuh has been conferred the Social Work Excellence Award-2022 by the Social Work Department of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) on the occasion of World Social Work Day at NKC Auditorium on Thursday.
Another woman, Padma Shri Lakhimi Baruah, founder and managing director of Kanaklata Mahila Urban Cooperative Bank, Jorhat, was also one of the recipients of the award.
The awards were handed over by USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque and vice-chancellor Prof GD Sharma.
In her speech, Phanbuh expressed her thankfulness towards the university.
She has been working for awareness of women in rural areas and with different organisations for the last 45 years with the sole objective of strengthening the society.
Like every year, this year too USTM Social Work Excellence Awards were conferred on distinguished personalities who have made immense contributions to society through their untiring work.
Prof Dhruba Pratim Sharma, Department of Political Science, Gauhati University delivered the guest lecture on this year’s theme of ‘Co-building a new eco-social world: Leaving no one behind.’
Stressing on the improvement of the eco-system, he said that the imbalances of development are creating problems.
