Three out of four accused held for manhandling ALRS officer in Assam’s Cachar

Four persons - Zahirul Alom, Zair Ali, Sohid Ahamed Laskaran, and Ikbal Hussain Laskar – have been identified in connection with the assault on ALRS officer Hussain Mohammad Mobin.

GUWAHATI:

Assam police, on March 11, held three out of the four persons involved in manhandling a Assam Land Revenue Service (ALRS) officer at Sonai, Cachar district on Thursday.

The four accused – Saharul Alam Sekh, Zair Ali, Sohid Ahamed Laskaran, and Ikbal Hussain Laskar – allegedly assaulted ALRS officer Hussain Mohammad Mobin when he was on official duty during the no confidence motion vote against a president of Swadhinbazar Gram Panchayat (GP) under Sonai Development Block.

While the main accused, Sekh, a ward commissioner of ward no 7, is absconding, the police rounded up the rest after Cachar Deputy Commissioner initiated action against the perpetrators.

Yesterday, about seven members of the GP voted in favour of the president, which led to a scuffle between the members in which Mobin too was roughed up by the mob. They also snatched all his documents, the police said.

Terming the incident unfortunate and aimed at demoralising hard working officers, Mobin said, “Such incidents demoralise the honest officers who are working tirelessly for the development of the area. Vandalism of this kind not only leads to physical injury but also creates psychological impact in the minds of common people and the staff.”

Notably, another ACS officer was manhandled by a police official in South Salmara-Mankachar district last week.
